Cuando los elementos visuales se mueven al unísono, a menudo los identificamos como agrupados. Este fenómeno perceptual fue llamado la “Ley del Destino Común” por los primeros gestaltistas. Se pueden encontrar ejemplos de destino común en el mundo natural, como cuando las personas se bajan de un tren al mismo tiempo y se dirigen hacia la salida o cuando una bandada de pájaros emprende el vuelo.

Los diseñadores web pueden explotar el sesgo común de agrupación de destinos para llamar la atención de los usuarios sobre elementos que comparten alguna relación significativa. Por ejemplo, un carrusel (un patrón de diseño de interfaz de usuario común) muestra elementos, imágenes, opciones, etc. en movimiento. El contenido de estos patrones de interfaz de usuario se muestra secuencialmente y sigue la misma dirección. El carrusel de IKEA se utiliza con buenos resultados; a los usuarios se les muestra una serie de opciones diferentes, con cada nueva imagen mostrando otro producto en oferta. La agrupación de estos productos es evidente a partir del espacio compartido en el que se muestran y su destino común.

La segunda imagen también destaca la importancia del destino común para la experiencia del usuario; Si bien los menús desplegables nos resultan familiares a la mayoría de nosotros, probablemente se haya pasado por alto el uso del destino común. Cuando el usuario selecciona una opción en un menú vertical, aparece otro menú desplegable a la derecha, y este patrón se repite hasta que se muestra la última categoría de opciones. Al organizar los menús de esta manera, el diseño le da al usuario una fuerte indicación de que están vinculados o agrupados.

El Yo! El sitio web de Sushi, que se ve en la parte inferior de la imagen compuesta, también emplea el destino común para llamar la atención del usuario sobre ciertos elementos de la pantalla. Las tres cabezas de muñecas de madera del lado izquierdo (una de las cuales es una silueta blanca sobre un fondo azul) se mueven al mismo tiempo, mientras que el resto de la pantalla permanece estático. El movimiento llama la atención y las pequeñas figuras destacan algunas características útiles, como las opciones para llevar.

Destino común y otras leyes

El destino común se refiere a elementos no estáticos y también está relacionado con una serie de otros principios de la Gestalt, que son la ‘Ley de proximidad’ y la ‘Ley de similitud’. Estas tres tendencias de agrupamiento, destino común, proximidad y similitud, operan al unísono y su influencia relativa sería difícil de separar. Sin embargo, no se debe ignorar su importancia individual para la efectividad de un diseño web. La explotación de las leyes de la Gestalt para ayudar a los usuarios a identificar elementos personalmente relevantes o importantes mejora la experiencia del usuario.

Puede preguntarse ‘¿cómo es eso?’ Bueno, la extracción de información de sitios web a menudo puede requerir mucho tiempo y esfuerzo. Si se toman medidas para ayudar a la extracción inmediata de información relevante, los usuarios pueden asignar recursos de atención limitados a otros elementos de la tarea, aumentando la productividad y mejorando la rentabilidad para los empleadores como resultado directo. Como regla general, el diseño siempre debe apuntar a reducir las demandas de los usuarios, ya sea que se logre a través de medidas que aprovechen o actúen en sincronía con nuestros sesgos perceptuales o no.
